Elementary English

Elementary / Primary English

  • The program focuses on building and strengthening the fundamentals of the English language.

  • Lessons are planned according to the student's age, competency, and curriculum.

  • The course covers the 3 elements of the language - grammar, vocabulary and comprehension.

Grammar

Grammar is not just about avoiding mistakes, it's the structural foundation of our ability to express ourselves. Understanding grammar rules and proper usage of them is fundamental for all English language learners. It helps you know how to craft words into eloquent sentences, and form those sentences into paragraphs that successfully convey your thoughts.

Students will learn about "the parts of speech" and how to use them properly. They will also learn to punctuate their sentences correctly. Punctuation, when used correctly can clarify meaning while lack of it can cause ambiguity.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary can be described as the "glue" that holds stories, ideas, and concepts together. It allows us to express our ideas and communicate effectively. Vocabulary is key to reading comprehension. Readers cannot understand what they are reading without knowing what most of the words mean.

Quite often, we may forget the new words we learn, so how do we build and expand our vocabulary?

Students will achieve this by using the new words effectively in their speech and writing.

Comprehension

Comprehension refers to the ability to understand written words and context. Merely reading but not understanding does not fulfill the purpose of reading. Comprehension makes reading fun, enjoyable and informative. It is essential to succeed in school, work, and life in general.

Students will learn strategies that will help them tackle comprehension with ease. The focus will be on 'finding the main idea, sequencing events, identifying facts and opinions, drawing conclusions, predicting outcomes, making inferences, and using contextual clues.' With patience and guidance, students will ace their comprehension.
